POLARISᴬᴿ to INTRODUCE STELLAR KNEE at AAOS ANNUAL MEETING

Miami, Florida, February 12, 2024: POLARISAR, a company that is pioneering a new era in surgery using mixed reality technology, announced today that it will be on site at the Annual Meeting of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) to offer interactive demonstrations of its STELLAR Knee mixed reality surgical guidance system, which received 510(k) clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on Nov. 2, 2023. Come to Booth 1068 on the exhibit floor during the Feb. 12-16 meeting at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, California.

To learn more about POLARISAR and STELLAR Knee during the AAOS Meeting, attendees can visit Booth #1068 to experience live demonstrations featuring a full simulation of the STELLAR Knee workflow.

STELLAR Knee from POLARISAR is achieving what total joint robotic systems do in a mixed reality format. Within a novel mixed reality environment, STELLAR Knee acts as a spatial computer, creating a continuous data exchange between surgeon and software. Using simple hand gestures and voice commands to seamlessly move through the workflow, the surgeon will use STELLAR Knee to measure, plan, and guide throughout the entire surgery, always maintaining surgical focus.

Housed in a highly portable mixed reality headset worn by surgeons, the software acquires patient-specific anatomic data in real time, giving surgeons meaningful clinical data they need, when they need it, to inform and guide their entire total knee arthroplasty procedure. Unlike traditional orthopaedic surgical navigation, robotics, and first-generation augmented reality technology, STELLAR Knee offers real-time adjustment capabilities without the footprint or more cumbersome aspects of predicate technologies, while enhancing operational efficiency.

STELLAR Knee is the first POLARISAR product to receive FDA clearance since the company was founded in 2020.

“We’re excited to invite leaders across the global orthopedic community to visit with us at this year’s AAOS so they can experience STELLAR Knee.  Enabling technologies in Total Knee Arthroplasty have come very far, our approach is to create an accurate, more data driven, and accessible mixed reality environment to take surgical guidance further.” said Paul Mikus, Chief Executive Officer of POLARISAR. “Every patient is different. Without the need for pre-operative imaging, STELLAR Knee intra-operatively translates anatomic data into critical measurements needed for the surgeon to build and execute a unique, patient specific surgical plan.  This one-of-a-kind digital environment promises to shift the standard of care.”

Harnessing a unique blend of proprietary tracking algorithms and spatial computing software, STELLAR Knee offers a highly customizable and intuitive user interface that gives surgeons full interactive capabilities. Simple to set up and integrate, the technology can be paired with any total knee replacement implant system.

“Having leveraged myriad advanced technologies in the OR, I appreciate the added advantages STELLAR Knee brings to our field,” said Nana Sarpong, MD, MBA, of Columbia University Irving Medical Center. “While this system can match the precision of surgical robots, its headset-only design is cost-efficient and leaves no footprint in the OR, making it more widely accessible than larger surgical guidance systems. As a result, this Mixed Reality technology could change practice across a broad array of orthopedic facilities.”

POLARISAR is looking forward to performing the first patient surgeries with STELLAR Knee in the coming weeks, a momentous step towards a new era of surgery, using mixed reality technology. We are honored to be working with multiple pioneering hospitals that will be among the first to use STELLAR Knee in support of their patients.

ABOUT POLARISAR

POLARISAR is a Miami-based startup founded in 2020 whose mission is to develop a new class of Mixed Reality surgical technology. Its goal is to optimize intraoperative workflows and improve upon patient outcomes using advanced, 3-dimensional spatial computing algorithms – spanning beyond traditional navigation, patient-specific instrumentation, robotics, and first-generation augmented reality. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration cleared the company’s first product, STELLAR Knee, in 2023.
